FUTURE is an Italian Space Agency mission developed under the ALCOR program, which aims to increase spacecraft autonomy and reduce reliance on operators and ground support services and facilities.
The mission aims to fly a set of sensors on a single satellite in LEO and use the data generated to feed different artificial intelligence algorithms to identify features on the Earth’s surface and elaborate position knowledge.
The mission results aim to measure accuracy, robustness, and deep space scalability to make a case for visual navigation as the primary method for future autonomous spacecraft missions.
